YOU ARE REALLY GIVING YOUR BODY A BOOST

So much to say here – where do I start?

How about the fact that cacao is rich in antioxidants – you know, those molecules that neutralise other molecules that can harm your cells – known as free radicals. They combat inflammation in the body. The exact types –  if you’re into that kind of thing – are epicatechin, catechin and procyanidins.

They can also help protect the skin from UV damage, as well as improve skin hydration and enhance skin elasticity. So a much healthier complexion!

We’re beginning to find out just how crucial inflammation is in terms of cardiovascular diseases, obesity and even Alzheimer’s. Well cacao has bio-active compounds that reduce inflammation – and limit any potentially harmful effects.

Gut health has a link to inflammation but it also exists in its own right too. Cacao contains prebiotic fibres that support the growth of beneficial gut bacteria, contributing to improved digestion and immune function. The high fibre content of cacao helps reduce appetite,  while polyphenols in cacao may support healthy metabolism and fat oxidation. Great for your weight management and overall digestive process.

Then there’s the heart. Cacao can actively improve heart health through flavonoids – enhancing blood flow, lowering blood pressure, and improving endothelial function. These are cells that line blood vessels and regulate exchanges between the bloodstream and surrounding tissue. Some scientists have found that these flavonoids can improve insulin sensitivity too, helping regulate blood sugar levels and potentially reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes.

Finally, don’t forget your muscles. Cacao provides magnesium – which is crucial for muscle and nerve function, energy production – along with iron, potassium, and zinc. Great for maintaining a healthy immune system.

All in all, a healthy way to enjoy a great drink. If you have any more questions on cacao and health, please do get in touch. We’ll be happy to respond.
